One of the main issues with smartwatches is that they don’t have good battery life. Most of them, like the Apple Watch Series 5 included, will barely last you a day, so you have to charge them when you go back. The new model has an always-on display, something that has been requested for a long time.

The interesting thing is that they had to rely on a new technology named low-temperature polysilicon and oxide display. The idea here is the display will refresh at 1Hz most of the time, in order to keep the screen active but not eat up a lot of battery.

This is a clever idea and it does provide a nice insight into how you can enjoy the experience and just adapt it as you go along. They even changed watch faces so they will maintain good battery life.

They also brought in a compass that helps you with elevation readings and it also aids in things like navigation.

That really makes all the difference and you will find the approach to be very rewarding especially if you go outdoors. They even went out of their way to offer an SOS mode provided that you have the cellular model.

Faster Performance

Some people thought that the Apple Watch Series 4 was a bit sluggish when it came to performance. This new unit really works super nicely and we find it to deliver on all fronts. Not only is it very adaptable but it also gives you the quicker performance you want.

The smartwatch just feels snappy and fun to use, interesting and also super exciting and appealing. It’s the type of unit that everyone wants and the fact that you can access it so quickly and with great efficiency really makes it stand out all the time.

But there are some things we don’t like too. There is no third-party watch faces still. As we mentioned earlier, with the new always-on display Apple wants to modify their own watch faces to boost battery life.

So that’s why we won’t really see third-party watch faces too soon. There are no new fitness features either, and the battery life is pretty much identical.

Conclusion

While the Apple Watch Series 5 can be named the Apple Watch Series 4.5 since it doesn’t have that many improvements, it does look great and the new features they added actually make sense.

It’s not a huge step forward, but a lot of people will want it mostly for the always-on display and the new compass that’s amazing for outdoor use.

Overall, there are many things to like about the Apple Watch Series 5, and while it’s not a revolutionary improvement over the previous one, it does stand out and looks amazing.
