Google has a reputation for quality with their Pixelbooks, but with that quality comes a high price tag. Now the Google Pixelbook Go is here to offer a more affordable take on the Pixelbook.

With prices starting at $649 it won’t replace the original Google Pixelbook, but it still offers great value for money and plenty of bang for your buck.

The laptop has an interesting and light design with a grippable texture and a bright 13.3-inch touchscreen that is very good value for money.

Here’s a closer look at the Google Pixelbook Go and why we think it should be considered one of the best laptops of 2020.

Pixelbook Go Design

The Google Pixelbook Go may have a different design than the original Pixelbook, but it still looks amazing. The 13mm thin chassis is surprisingly sturdy and slim for a machine that only costs $649.

It weighs around 2 pounds too, so you’ll barely even feel it in your bag. It may be the lightest 13-inch laptops on the market right now.

The laptop is available in two different colors depending on your preferences. There’s the Just Black option and the Not Pink option, which is the same as the one used for the Pixel 3 smartphone.

The Just Black design is something of a homage to the black Apple MacBook, with the Not Pink combining an orange underside with a barely-pink lid. They both have their charms and look great.

As mentioned before, the Pixelbook Go has a grippier design than the old Pixelbook, but this doesn’t mean that it will feel rubbery. The laptop is made with a quality magnesium chassis that is as refined as it is durable.

As far as ports go, this is one area the Pixelbook and Pixelbook Go are the same; there’s a headphone jack and two power-drawing USB-C ports.

Pixelbook Go Battery Life

This is one Chromebook that is sure to go the distance. It has been rated for up to 12 hours on a single charge, but obviously how long the battery lasts depends on what you do with it.

In terms of charging, Google says that you can get two hours of battery life from a 20-minute charge. That’s very impressive, if true.

The display is one area where the Pixelbook Go is a bit of a letdown. The screen can look a little dim when faced with a lot of natural light. You’ll likely run into trouble using it on a bright day.

With that said, it was still very responsive. You’ll have no problems loading apps and accessing content on the device. You just might run into some problems actually looking at it at times.

Most Pixelbook Go models have a clear 1080p display screen, with a 4k panel reserved for the more expensive models.

Summary

There’s definitely a lot to like about the Google Pixelbook Go. It has some drawbacks, sure, but it still offers excellent value for money. It is cheaper than the original Pixelbook and has an elegant design all its own.

The chassis is put together well, the keyboard responds quickly and quietly, and it has impressive battery life. There’s not much else you could ask for.
