Getting a good Wi-Fi router can be tricky and challenging at the same time. It’s very important to figure out where you can find a good router that also offers smart hub capabilities. And that’s where the Google Nest WiFi is coming into play.

This is a very interesting product designed with the idea of helping you access great router options while also being the core of your IoT home.

Why was the Google Nest WiFi Created?

This is a follow-up for a Google Nest product that was basically the norm for simple, mesh-based WiFi routers. This one is designed to offer a much better set of capabilities.

The idea here is to improve on the original. And they did just that, by focusing on much better speeds and a really impressive design. That being said, they are going to charge you more, which is a very problematic thing to think about at this time.

The unit will cost you around $169, so it’s more expensive than the predecessor. And this time around, you don’t have Wi-Fi compatibility which might be quite the problem in a situation like this.

In case you already have Google WiFi, then you can get a Nest Wifi point and use it as you see fit, it still works the way you want and that’s a major benefit to think about.

A Clever Design

We all know that no one really likes bulky routers in their home. That’s especially true in the case of smart home access points.

The Google Nest WiFi is designed with simplicity in mind. it looks like a speaker, but at the same time, it also has a variety of colors you can choose from. There are 2-gigabit ethernet points and power in.

When it comes to performance, it is pretty good. According to google you can have up to 2200 square feet covered by this. If you add some additional connectivity points it can go up to 5400 square feet.

So yes, you can spruce this up significantly if you want, which is actually a very good idea. We like the fact that you can be very creative with it and come up with every approach you need, which is super exciting and rewarding at the same time.

Is it Worth It?

The lack of Wi-Fi 6 is a drawback, and they are also removing some potential ports due to the design. That’s definitely a setback if you want the unit to be future-proof.

But if you get past that, you will find that this is a very interesting and certainly visually appealing product. It’s easy to configure, it looks great and it does have very good coverage. Whether it’s worth it or not, that’s all up to you.

If you already have a Google-focused internet installation in your home, it fits in just nicely. If you’re not a part of that ecosystem, however, there are cheaper options with higher performance.
